“I know. I know. I know”

I have a few friends that say this phrase. Hell, i even say it. “I know!”. We say it in response to things we know, don’t know, should know or want to know. We just know everything. I spoke to a friend about advancing his career and he said,

“Yo, Chris…I know, I know”

and I said to him, “No, Bro, You don’t. because if you really knew. Deep down in your bones you would prioritize your shit better! So No, B, you don’t know.”

I don’t know why I chose that moment to say it or why it came out the way that it did. Half of the problem I am sure was looking at my own reflection. I spend so much time knowing but not doing. Listening to and watching my dear friend I realized that “I know” creates a wall. It’s our defense mechanism. Our shared way of saying, “don’t need to tell me because I have told myself a million times. and I don’t need help” But we do need help. I think we all do this. We all find ways to defend ourselves from the help that crosses our path by “knowing” so much. True Knowledge, aka “knowing” requires the application of wisdom. The using of the knowledge. Doing. Knowing means you have prioritized so much based on your knowledge that it then leads to action. Inaction is the death of wisdom.

I encourage to you to do two things.

One. When you are blessed with advice that you think you think that you “know”, look at your actions and see if they reflect that knowledge. After all, if your friends-your true friends who are put on earth to help you are telling saying your don’t know, perhaps your actions and “knowledge” are not running parallel. So, Listen to their advice, observe yourself and let it sink in before allowing the reflex of “I know” to come out. perhaps replace “I know” with “Thank you, i will look into it”

Two. Prioritize. Take all of your wisdom and your “i knows” and do something. As we used to say growing up. Don’t talk about it, be about it. And though this usually was spoken after a threat. It can be applied to our every day life. If you know it. Spend less time thinking and talking about knowing it and more time doing it. Take time today to align your priorities and action. What are three things you can do today to refocus and make your “knows” actions.
